I am looking to port my existing 802 UNICEL to ATT. At first the CSR's at ATT said no problem. I went to a web page that showed ATT wireless had a presence in the Burlinton call area (and now can't find that URL). So went for a ATT plan. Phones are in transit, numbers assigned. I have since called ATT "porting" area who transferred me to "relocation" who said no dice. Is the response from ATT valid? While these days I don't think having a out of state number is that big of deal, it will break the deal for others in my household. Let me know if there are other options to get my numbers ported ... Thanks in advance, John |

I find just a single area code and exchange (NPA-NXX) in Vermont, in the records of NAMPA.COM, the North American Numbering Plan Administrator. 802-595 NEW CINGULAR WIRELESS PCS, LLC - DC MONTPELIER There are others, belonging to AT&T Local, which I suspect is CLEC wireline, not wireless: 802-275 AT&T LOCAL BRATTLEBO 802-318 AT&T LOCAL BURLINGTON 802-662 AT&T LOCAL ESSEX JCT 802-323 AT&T LOCAL NEWPORT CLEC is competitive local exchange company, someone to compete with the ILEC, incumbent local exchange company (Verizon New England Inc.) If the RCC Unicom purchase by Verizon Wireless goes through with the suggested divestments, then AT&T Mobility could pick up their exchanges and facilities: 802-379 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION ARLINGTON 802-289 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BELLOWSFLS 802-380 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BRATTLEBO 802-324 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-343 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-355 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-363 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-373 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-777 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-825 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION BURLINGTON 802-395 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION GRAND ISLE 802-349 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION MIDDLEBURY 802-279 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION MONTPELIER 802-793 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION MONTPELIER 802-673 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION NEWPORT 802-952 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION READING 802-353 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION RUTLAND 802-393 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION ST ALBANS 802-782 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION ST ALBANS 802-535 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION ST JOHNSBY 802-356 RURAL CELLULAR CORPORATION WH RIV JCT So, AT&T Mobility doesn't have any local facilities in Burlington to receive your number from the RCC switch. It's LWNP, local wireless number porting; you just may not qualify yet. You wrote that an out of state number was a deal breaker--how far is Montpelier from Burlington? I expect it's a toll call by wireline. Is that a smaller problem? COtech

wow! Thanks for the prompt reply. The URL I found (Telcodata.US: Search by Full Area Code / Single Exchange) show ATT as CLEC as you typed. I didn't think to put in cingular. Interesting as it shows an assign date of 9/08/2008 without any other detailed info. I'll give ATT a try again in the morning wit this new info. If I can get a 802, I think I can make my deal fly domestically. Montpelier is about 40 minutes ride, I'm sure a toll call for those with local service only, but still in 802. I'll update with results! Thanks again for the clue |
