Default amount of rings . . . .

New to Cingular. Just came from VZW after 10 years with them but things were adding up in the negative and heard a lot of good things about Cingular especially after they bought out AT&T.

I got the V551 and even though it is only a few days I like this phone. Having full Bluetooth capabilities is strange to an ex-verizon customer

Question is about amount of phone rings before being sent to VM. Can this be selected by the user by calling CS or is it a default amount that can't be changed?

As always, thanks in advance for any replies!

On your phone dial:

*61*+1XXXXXXXXXX*11*tt#

where XXXXXXXXXX is the ten-digit voicemail system number for your area and tt is the time in seconds you want the phone to ring for. Valid numbers for tt are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30. Since each ring is approx. 5 seconds including the blank space between them, that means 30 seconds should give you about 6 rings and that's the maximum you can do.

For instance, to set the longest ring delay for the NYC market you would dial:

*61*+19084630020*11*30#

After pressing the "send/call" button you should get some sort of confirmation message.

Note: If you don't know what the voicemail system number for your area is, dial *#61# on your phone.

Enjoy!

The *#61# "SEND" is just to tell you what number your phone dials into in the voicemail system. I have a T-Mobile V600 that I use on Cingular and found the voicemail number that I use off the web. I don't know what the number for this area would be, but the one I have is not local.

Mine comes up with a NJ area code 908 for Brooklyn NY.

After entering the code you posted I got "Forward Set: If No Answer"

I assume that is the verification reply that it took?

Yes, that's correct. Did you test it out by dialing your cell? The number was 9084630020, right? That's the number used for all of NYC/NJ market.

Yep, that is the phone number and "30" went for almost 7 rings so I'm going to drop it down to "25". Works perfectly, thanks again.

No prob...
You get 7 rings probably because your phone rings faster than standard. In other words, the ringer you have is less than 5 seconds long.

Peace....
