Default Someone please explain to me how AT&T bill 1 month in advance works

I am confuse how AT&T 1 months i advance. Here is my problem, my contract ended, and I have canceled their services at the last day of the contract. I set up auto-payment, and the bill for prior month before the cancellation was paid. So, if I am interpret correctly, I should owe little or no money to AT&T. However, they sent me a full month bill for it.

Here are my details.
Last billing cycle: 01/20/2008 to 02/19/2008 (paid)
Cancellation date: 3/13/08

Bill for billing Cycle 2/20/2008 to 3/19/2008 were received shortly after cancellation.

My interpretation on this is the bill I paid for the period of 1/20 to 2/19 is covered for usage from 2/20 to 3/19, and AT&T is wrong on it.

Someone please comment on this.

Thanks.

Your cancellation date was 3/13, and your final bill was dated for 3/19. This is normal. AT&T bills in advance, it's just what they do. When you cancel, it is effective at the end of the billing cycle for the date you cancelled - 3/13 > 3/19. AT&T is not wrong on your billing.

Look at the service period for your voice plan on the billing statement. If on your billing statement dated 3/19/08, you are being billed for the voice service period of 3/20 - 4/19, then contact customer service, have them review the service termination & billing statements with you, and request a credit adjustment.

If you are being billed for the 2/20 - 3/19 voice service period on the 3/19/08 billing statement (which I'd say is doubtful) and you were previously billed for it on the 2/19/08 statement, then once again - contact customer service regarding the duplicate billing for the same service period.

Based on my billing, I would say that you paid for the 2/20 - 3/19 voice service period on your 2/19/08 statement, which you indicate you have already paid. (My billing statement for the 5/2 - 6/1 period contains my monthly voice service charge for the 6/2 - 7/1 time period.)

However, if you have any overages, pay per use usage, etc. during the final billing period, you would have a balance for these things on the 3/19/08 billing statement. Only monthly voice and feature package amounts are billed in advance.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am able to get them zero out my bill. I will have to wait and see my final bill before I try to fight for refund.

Thanks again.

i agree with hme83 also, look at the statement and see what period they are billing you for. it could have happened in error, if so they will credit you, i would not lose sleep over this, it is not something that cannot be fixed if need be.

Good luck!
