| What happend is that I am going to be taking a bus and plane ride several hours from ky to ny with my kids and my mother offered to get a cell phone contract in her name and give me the phone so that i can use it on my trip and after so thinking there was enough time i placed an order from my computer here in ky with my moms info in ny. Everything was entered correctly her billing address and my shipping address. I placed the order Thursday hoping to receive it by the following Wednesday for my trip. but I have never received an email with an order number so I called att, and they said that my order was on some kind of security hold and didnt know when it would be approved or denied. They also said that alot of people place orders like that ( parents in one state and kids in another) basically all I'm wondering is how this works and if any one has went through this how long it took. Thank you for your help |

| I was browsing the forums I don't know anything about ATT's system but here at tmobile the reason that it would be flagged is because when the credit was run for the acct with your mom's SSN, your address didn't match last known on the credit report. With Identity Theft being a HUGE issue these days the Risk Assesment Team would flag the order and investigate so you're probably on the back log of whichever team at ATT handles this. What I recommend is buying a go phone (prepaid) Since I just looked at the date of your post I hope all worked well for you. |

| The hold is just that: a security hold. Let me explain as I have run into this when I would sign people up under a contract under a different responsible billing party then the end user. When AT&T adds a second party to any line and it is through telesales they have to verify two things: 1.) That the party you signed up under is aware that you are signing up for service on their plan, and 2.) the address for where you will be using the phone is in native AT&T coverage. AT&T had major issues with people signing up under other peoples names especially when the old TDMA Digital One Rate plans came out. To many people were signing up in roaming areas and raking up huge roaming charges and such. I remember hearing a story about 1 person who was approved for 13 phones (all for his family) across the us and only 2 were in native AT&T coverage. On a small side note it could also be that something bounced on credit and thus they needed to get a deposit or something from the main responsible billing party on the bill. I always told anyone who was adding a line to make sure the responsible billing party was there as it was a lot easier for the account activation! |

| In Use Now: HTC Tilt | Of course its too late now, but what I would have done was have mom buy the phone and activate it in a local store, and have her overnight it to you. Then you would have been able to avoid this... I also agree that the Go Phone prepaid pick your plan would have been a good option as well. -Jay |
