Nobody can attempt to help you without knowing the make and model of your phone.

I'm afraid only AT&T can give you the unlock code (and they'll need the IMEI of the phone) for a Blackberry. There may be some third-party unlocking services, but I doubt any of them offer free codes.

As you can see I've gotten unlock codes before, some of those times it's just to help people out, I did it because not only is it free and it feels good to help people out and it's such a waste to have active lines and not use it to its full potential.

I see both of you got ATT, too bad there ain't no good samaritan in here.

I'm sorry that you did not get your desired answer fast enough, but the truth remains the only way you are going to get that phone unlocked for free is to do it through AT&T if you are an active customer in good standing. Otherwise be prepared to pay anywhere between $20 and $50 to have an independent dealer unlock it for you with a USB cable.

Unfortunately I have a family plan with 3 phones, and I have about a dozen backup phones. I switch my phones almost daily depending on what I anticipate my communications needs are for the day ahead. I don't have any "Free unlocks" left to give away. You will find that most cell phone geeks around forums such as this are very much like me, and they burn through the unlocks as fast as they can get them on their own devices.

I've gotten brand new line and requested a unlock code right away and it work, didn't even have to wait for 90 days, it just depend on what reps you get, just be nice and they will give it to you. Most of the time I have just gotten a unlock code and my 90 days ain't up yet and they still was able to get a unlock code.....I did it for someone else. This one time the rep was so nice on my brand new line, she push back my contract date to the original line which is 2005 just so she can submit the unlock request, even though she knew that it was a big risk if it was someone not honorable they could easily cancel that brand new line because in the system it said the line have already expired.

I shouldn't have to mention that I would gladly return the favor.

PS Know any site/forum to request unlock code??

The offer for a TMO unlock is nice, however I don't have any TMO phones I need unlocked. I also don't want to be flagged for asking for too many unlock codes. Personally I don't feel comfortable asking for more than 3 per calendar year. (1 for each line) You know there is some bean counter in an office just reviewing how many unlocks customers ask for.

Maybe someone will just give an unlock to a stranger, but personally your best bet is to find a friend with AT&T and get the unlock code through them. Trying to make people feel guilty for not giving you a free unlock code is not the way to go about it.

I've gotten 9 unlock codes this year alone with no problem. The funny part is that I am doing this for a friend, not for me. I get my phones only from tmob. He dont know anything about locked phones. Everybody I know either use tmob or verizon. It's just a little shocking that no helpful church people that live by a standard "do upon others as you would do upon me" have responded yet. When I wouldn't even hesitate to help someone out when I had the chance especially for something that cost me nothing.

Obviously you are much more of a philanthropist than we all are. I believe it has been made clear to you by more than one person that we will not be able to help you in getting a free unlock code and trying to put a guilt trip on us is not going to get you anywhere.

This thread has outlived it's useful life and I am closing it out.

Goodluck, I hope you find someone as nice as you and get your free unlock code.

PS: You do realize that asking an unlock code from a provider for someone other than you, is borderline illegal and frowned upon by the wireless industry. If they wanted to, they can easily terminate your contract on the grounds of fraud, specially if you are doing so continuously.

I don't think you realize the scale of this here... If I gave an AT&T unlock code to everybody who came here asking for one, I'd be asking at&t for at least a dozen codes a week. We cannot decide who is "helpful church people" and who deserves the few codes we can get. I save my unlocks for devices on my lines. Also, as Charlyee has pointed out, the act of asking for unlock codes for devices not on your account is borderline illegal. Most "helpful church people" do not engauge in borderline illegal activities. As I see it you have a few options:

1. Sign up for AT&T service
2. Find an independent dealer willing to unlock it for a fee (usually $20 - $50).
3. Ask a friend who does have AT&T service to obtain the unlock code for you.
4. Make a new friend (either in person, or online in a forum such as this) who does have AT&T, and then after some time try #3.

I hope you do find a generous person to get the unlock code for you, I just can't be the person to do it. I have already stated that I am uncomfortable asking for more unlock codes than I already am. "Helpful church people", or "Decent churchgoing people" as I like to call them would never ask anyone to do anything that would make them uncomfortable.
