Over the years I've heard some bad things about AT&T & Nextel in Las Vegas.
The "Spaghetti Bowl" near Downtown LV, anyone familiar?

My mother had Nextel in LV, and her mother has AT&T.
both have some bad experiences with their service in LV.
(this was at least 3 years ago, hopefully they improved).

Anyway, I've been to the LV airport with my Alltel phone so far,
Also, been to the Bay Area and up Interstate 5 between Sacramento & Mount Shasta,
my only experience with CDMA on the West Coast so far, and it was great (roaming on Verizon's Network).

I should be going to CA later this summer, so I'm looking forward to my 2nd Western US CDMA experience.

nope, not familiar with that area, but people that know that have Nextel say that it's really not that good anywhere. I hate to say it but i think Nextel was doing much better before sprint took ownership of the company

It all boils down to where you live and travel. CDMA has worked everywhere I go. GSM has not. Type the zip code 43028 into At&t's coverage viewer. This is my wifes families stomping grounds. The whole eastern half of the county..0 coverage. All the CDMA carriers (Vzw, Alltel, Sprint) have it covered, Nextel even has it covered. GSM coverage also sucks in northern New England where I grew up and my family lives. At&t is very spoty or nonexistint. And now that Vzw bought Unicel, I bet GSM coverage will suffer there too. Everyone there has Vzw or USCC. That is my experience, but I be there are people that have the opposite experience.

to be honest where your talking about looks pretty far off the beaten path and there is major cities nearby. they probably figure its money better spent in the city. and likely supply a better network in those major areas.

Well, That is where our families live and CDMA works. My wife's family lives around the lake you can see on the map (43028) . There are about 1200 homes (mostly yearround) around that lake. It is a really nice place to live. Where my family lives in New Hampshire is rural, but is a tourism hotspot for Bostonians. Beautiul scenery, lakes, etc. NC mountains are similar. CDMA coverage with limited GSM.
