I'm curious if anyone knows where deleted text messages are stored. I found some software that retrieved deleted texts from the SIM card, but I'd like to know if they are stored anywhere else. I have a SLVR L7.

I don't believe the deleted text's are stored anywhere after you delete them

Well, some "IT" guys where my husband works told him they could retrieve deleted text messages from my phone from before we were married, they just needed to have my phone for a day. I just want to make sure it's not possible...I'll get a new SIM card or phone if I have to!

These are expensive, do not always work & not available to general public. It is probably not as easy as your husband's IT friend is making it sound but I am not in IT so someone like Bobolito will have better input on that. For all practical purposes you probably have nothing to worry about and from what I have read, changing your SIM and/or hard resetting your phone will permanently erase all data.

I appreciate the info. Would my provider be able to tell me how to do a hard reset, or should I go to the Motorola website for that information? I assume there is a button somewhere? That's how I reset my Palm. Thanks again for your time.

Actually many Moto users on this board also know, why don't you post it as a separate question on the Motorola Forum. It is buried in one of the menu items not as easy as a Palm. For your peace of mind, maybe you want to have your SIM card replaced also. Good luck

what many probably don't realize is that there is a cache persay that is left behind.......its not actual saved files but ghost images of the files...........so therefore unless you got the phone and SIM completely reflashed a phone can store quite a few deleted messages.............same with a regular hard drive..........they tell you never to sell hard drives used because there may be ghost data on the drive that can be recovered with only a little work

If your phone is reformatted or re-flashed or whatever and you get a new SIM card, that should be enough. If you had high level government secrets in those SMS-es then maybe break out the sledge-hammer and lighter fluid, but otherwise I think you're OK.

no.....i dont think so......reflashing is something that involves a little hacking or has to be done by the manufacturer or carrier.......doing it on your own can be dangerous and could involve you turning your phone into a paperweight

To me I wouldn't worry about it, and besides what does it matter what your "Past" sms history was, you married him & he needs to not worry about that & accept you for who you are now & stop being petty about things that don't matter. Life is too short to be doing things like this & hopefully he was just joking with you & has no real intention of trying to get the IT guy to do it, and if he does, you have bigger problems to worry about then old sms. Sorry if this came across as rough or extreme, not my intention
