Default Tethering question

i understand what tethering is. i would like connect my phone to a lap top for about four days and that is it. does att have something that will allow me to do this unlimited without adding an additional 20 dollars to my plan for the month?

my phone is a blackjack 2 and only need tethering for about four days.

best suggestions?

I am sure someone will let me know if I am incorrect re: this, but AFAIK you can change data feature plans anytime you desire.

If it were me, I'd add the "PDA Personal w/ Tethering" plan the day before I need it and then drop back to whatever data plan you need for more long term purposes the day after your need for tethering has ended. This way the prorated charge for the "tethered plan" portion of the month would be approx. $12 (6 days / 30 days * $60 monthly fee). For the remainder of the month, your data plan fees would be prorated accordingly based on the data plan you've chosen.

sounds about right.

keep in mind that with the BJ2 you CANNOT tether using Communications Manager.

you have to actually go into the connections and select USB and select Modem

to be honest this phone is one of the more difficult ones to tether with. the Blackberrys are much easier as you run communications manager and hook your phone up and boom your on.

Its easier to teather data over BT or WiFi, and ATT just recognizes it as regular Media Net data.

You can share internet over a BT PAN or from your computer set up your USB BT dongle as a "Bluetooth Modem" and use the Windows DUN interface to teather.

Here's the ATT DUN settings:

Username: WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password: CINGULAR1 (This is case sensitive!!!)
Number to Dial: *99***3#

I also always max out the port speed in the modem configuration so the port doesn't restrict a nice fast HSDPA connection.

This will work for Bluetooth or USB modem connections.
