Angry Wife's phone got stolen!

My wife's V557 got stolen from her desk at work. And to make matters worse, the person who took it spent all morning sending out obscene text messages to a bunch of people in her phone book before she realized it was gone and suspended the account. What kind of lowlife would do something like that?

When we contacted AT&T to see if they could bar the IMEI number, they indicated (as I knew they would) that they have no way of doing this. I know we don't have a centralized stolen phone IMEI database here in North America, but I would have hoped that at least within AT&T, they surely could come up with a way to keep stolen phones off their network!

Well, I gave my wife my RAZR and took my V600 back out of hibernation, so we are back in business, but knowing that whoever took the phone is probably using it now is the unkindest cut of all. I hope he/she is talking on the phone while driving and wraps their car around a tree.... well ok maybe not, but emotionally not too far off the mark.

Wow, that's not good at all. I hope she made a complaint to managment about it being stolen and what the lowlife was doing with the phone.

I hope they find the person quick and keep an eye on Ebay just in case they try to sell it.

I don't know why they don't use the same program used in Europe with the IMEI number database, it makes sense if you ask me.

Yeah, she complained to security - not sure it will do much good unless they caught it on some video surveillance or something which I'm not sure covers all the office area.

I looked at the various ebay listings for V557s and don't have one from my area yet. That's a superb phone - if I were him, I'd throw away away just about any other phone and use it instead.

What's sad is it is probably someone she works with, I hope things work out for you.

Yes, the V551/7 was a fantastic phone. Solid, durable, and an RF king. I hope you can either recover the phone, or get another at a reasonable price.

If security seems to blow it off, then she needs to go higher up to complain, especially with camera's around the building, at least with a time frame they might be able to narrow down people in that area (depending on how large of a company it is)

Yes that was a very good phone I liked it, I hope you find one on Ebay and again good luck with this mess.
