After going through two SE z525s, after about two months each, the display on both went all white, I called AT&T to get a different phone, which was a shame because I LOVED the z525. So, today I got a Nokia 6085. The problem is, I HATE it. The call quality sucks. I liken it to the call quality of a roving NPR reporter in Tel Ave on a satellite phone. Yeah, that bad. Also, I hate how the menu doesn't just go away when you close the phone, and how the buttons feel, and how the menus are set-up. Really just about everything. So, here's my question, can I call AT&T back an request a differnt model? When I called the lady said the 6085 was a new model for AT&T that wasn't in the stores yet, so I couldn't check it out. Never in a million years would I have picked this phone out in a store, so can I call back and ask for a different model? |

I can't say for 100% sure, was it an insurance replacement or thru AT&T warranty?

Ok, let me get this straight. You LOVE the 525 when you state that you have gone through two of them already because their screens stopped working. Yep, that's a great advertisement for quality on the part of SE. "This phone is great, well until it shoots craps." Definitely, if you don't like the 6085, try to exchange it, but don't be upset when they won't do it. Warranty replacement makes their own rules, and are separate from AT&T. It's the same company that handles insurance claims. And, for those who wonder why SE isn't really represented anymore at AT&T, maybe it has something to do with dead screens, bad batteries, sucky reception and a host of other problems known to be endemic with them. As far as Motos are concerned, well, Moto has its own issues. |

IMHO, at&t is concentrating on carrying LG's & Samsung's because both companies are trying very hard to be as successful in the GSM market as they have been in the CDMA market. Typically their phones are less expensive than the Motos, Nokias & SEs with similar feature set, which is an incentive for both the customer & the provider. Just my 2 cents.

A few years ago that was a different story & they weren't that good, but they did seem to straighten themselves out & as Charlyee said the bigger issue seems to be AT&T with not selling them. I believe they are big in Europe and I think the #3 manufacture there.

I want to add that the Z525a/Z520a series is a budget SE phone. It is NOT one of the top of the line SE phones. The Walkman series are much better SE phones. SE's budget phones leave a little to be desired, but they aren't horrible in the least. I have an unlocked Z520a. It works fine for what I need it to do and it has some cool features. I wish battery life was a little bit better, but it's not horrible in the least. I agree with the others, call AT&T and request a better replacement phone.

You certaintly can do that, exchange for a different model. I'd suggest going into a store to see some models before calling in.

We have had the SE Z500 and had good service and the battery life was good. My daughter had the Z525 and loved it and the battery life was better. We have 4 SE w300i phones and the battery life is GREAT. The reception also proved to be better for the SE phones than Nokias we have had.

Reception isn't something I can really comment upon since it isn't really an issue here. All my SE handsets can hold a good signal, but then that's true of almost all handsets here since coverage is near ubiquitous. One has experienced dropped calls and distortion from time to time, but I haven't seen any mass reports of that being a fundamental problem with SE handsets from European customers. Thus I would imagine that I either had SE handsets that were peculiar in that they had some sort of call quality issue or that it was more to do with network conditions. The reason AT&T doesn't stock more SE handsets is probably more to do with the fact that SE has been a relatively small manufacturer until fairly recently and the fact that it seems to have concentrated more on other markets. SE had a relatively limited portfolio of handsets in the past and it aimed those handsets at its core European market as well as developing markets like China. More recently its portfolio has expanded and we have seen more handsets become available for North America, but its main focus is still on Europe and China, India,. etc. I imagine you may see more SE handsets in North America soon as SE is committed to providing handsets for T-Mobile USA's 3G network.
