Default Media Net data plan with a shared SMS plan

This was brought up in another thread in the T-Mobile boards & I figured I would relay what I had been able to do, with the help of Charlyee.

I migrated over from Blue to Orange last month thanks to the unlimited shared SMS package & have been wanting to play with Media Net finally.
I noticed all the plans had Media Net with an SMS package attached & was worried if I added this to my line alone would it cause a problem with the shared SMS plan.

I talked to a rep today & ended up being able to add the Unlimited plan for $19.99 to just my line with no SMS attached to it, so my Unlimited SMS plan was left alone.
Per the rep you can add only the 1MB plan for $4.99 or the Unlimited plan for $19.99, they don't offer a 5MB plan anymore (I believe it's part of a smart phone add on).

So if anyone with a shared plan wanted to add just 1 line of MediaNet and has the unlimited SMS plan it can be done.
I just couldn't accept the thought only the Pick Your Plan Go Phone people could add a data plan to their phones.

I really hope they revamp these plans to a lower price & offer a shared version, I may only keep this a month depending on finances right now.

Unfortunately this is true, you can either have unlimited for $19.99 for the 1MB for $4.99. If you're a converted account you're still billed in arrears right? If so you could always add the $19.99 once a new bill cycle starts and only pay for the service that you use to avoid any extra charges for the month in advance, that'd be my suggestion since you're just wanting to play around with media net to try it out.

Yes as far as I am aware I am billed in arrears, since it's showing up on my OLAM already & it shows it pro-rated till 8/15. I figure going to SC next weekend this will give me a reason to get yelled at while on Vacation.

Have fun on vacation

Have fun with Cellular Video, if you go with the unlimited data plan. You could even sign up for the subscription to MobiTV if you'd like just be sure to cancel it if you don't want it as subscriptions don't prorate.

Thanks, but can I use CV with the Media Net plan? the way they keep saying you need a CV plan with MediaNet & it's very confusing.

Not that I can use CV at home since we don't have 3G in most of my town yet, just a small area of it.

Sure, all you need is that unlimited media net plan and you'll have access. And CV will work the EDGE coverage only. That's all we have here and I watch CV all the time. I thought for the longest time that you had to have 3G coverage but it will work on EDGE.

Thanks for the update on this Joe, they do make it seem confusing.

I'm just eager to get 3G coverage here. They have it at the call center where I work, but no where else in the city. We have it there so that they can troubleshoot issues with it and I play on it during idle time it work. It's so fast, blows my mind sometimes. I tethered my PC to my phone and with my EDGE connection I was getting a decent connection, faster than dialup even.

It's about 1/2 a mile in 1 direction from my house & about a mile from Work, I am sure it won't be too long before I see it here, and since I just started using the data I find it slow but guess I am just use to my high speed internet & bigger screen.
