| I've heard about this, not to anxious to support this though.. Can't imagine how much fun it's going to be to tell people that they phucked up when trying to back up their contacts and now that they need them, too bad... so sad.

I see in this link AT&T Mobile Backup launches June 8 - Engadget Mobile that at&t is planning on charging their customers $1.99/month for the use of this application....Any word on if they plan to offer it free of charge if you have an account on line with them like Verizon does?

Didn't Verizon have a fee for their service like this in the beginning, then they went to it being free just a short time ago? Maybe they won't go free with it, since people do have the SIM cards & most would use that, but it is a good idea especially if you don't have software to back them up to your computer.

I agree with you, it seems this will do a backup & allow you to upload it to your phone. Doing the system thru OLAM allows you to designate names to the numbers, and in your phone book see the names & numbers and print them, but that is the limit of it.

| Exactly, you can save them on there but not upload them to your phone if you need them.

That would be a good thing to offer customers and hopefully it will be for free like VZW does it. I can say this would save a lot of head ackes from the too many changes of handset that happens in my family.

has anyone known any carrier to offer anything for free? Detail Billing was free, now some charge for it. Last edited by jkirk994; 07-21-2007 at 6:45 PM. Reason: to add to post |

Does it backup more than just the name/phone number? VZW's backup assistant allows you to backup multiple phone numbers along with an email address. I guess that would be the difference than simply having your contacts on a SIM, correct? Can you backup multiple numbers and email addresses on today's SIM's?

Images: 293 | AT&T Launches Mobile Backup New Product Provides Management of Contact Information. AT&T Inc. has announced that people will be able to easily store, update and access the contact information on their wireless phones through a new downloadable handset application. Called AT&T Mobile Backup, this application eliminates the need to spend hours re-entering contacts into a new or replacement phone. AT&T Mobile Backup also provides several features that help customers easily manage their wireless handset's contact information. AT&T Mobile Backup will be available on a variety of handsets, beginning with six Motorola devices: the Motorola RAZR V3xx, RAZR V3i, RAZR V3r, V365, SLVR L7 and KRZR K1. The service will be compatible with more handsets in the future. "Most people have contact information on their wireless devices that they do not have stored anywhere else," said Carlton Hill, vice president of Voice Products and Devices for AT&T's wireless unit. "Because of this, we are excited to offer a secure backup option to protect this important information." Subscribers may add new contacts to their account and edit existing contacts on the AT&T Mobile Backup Web site at AT&T Mobile Backup - Keep Your Phone Numbers Safe. Subscribers can also import contacts from Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! and AOL. Those new contacts can then be sent to the device over the wireless network. An automatic backup option gives customers the flexibility to back up their information daily or weekly or perform a backup at any time through the application menu. In addition to storing all contact information on secure servers, AT&T Mobile Backup adds privacy and security by allowing a subscriber to remotely erase contacts from a lost or stolen handset from the Web site. AT&T Mobile Backup is powered by Asurion, a leading provider of enhanced services to the wireless industry. The product will be available on compatible handsets for $1.99 a month. There are no additional charges for the data transmission to back up or restore contacts. Customers with compatible devices can purchase AT&T Mobile Backup by visiting AT&T Mobile Backup - Keep Your Phone Numbers Safe or an AT&T retail store or by texting "MBU" to 386. I do agree it has some interesting features with the Outlook import & abilities to erase contacts from stolen/lost handsets. This sounds different then what Verizon had, can someone verify that?
