Default Increase the volume on my "M" V400 Phone

How can I increse the receiver volume on my phone so I can hear the conversation better? I tried everything I can think of.
Any Ideas?

I knew you were going to ask this sooner or later...

You need the Motorola data cable, a hex file editor, P2Kman and some computer skills. It is quite easy, but if you think you cannot do it, let me know and I can e-mail you a file you can just upload to your phone to make it louder.

By the way, is your phone picking up blue towers yet?

I don't have the Motorola data cable, a hex file editor, P2Kman but I do have some computer skills. Should I buy the cable or can a cingular office do it for me?
No my phone (although it is a little better) is not picking up Blue towers as of yet. How do you know it is? By performance?

Cingular will not do that for you. In fact, I'm sure they don't even know you can do this. This is what I call "hacking" into the phone and fixing something the manufacturer did wrong in the first place. So nobody at Cingular can help you with this because this is underground stuff, if you know what I mean.

The best I can do is send you the modified file and you can upload it to the phone. You will still need the cable and Pk2man for this, but you won't need the hex editor. If you want to get the cable, don't buy the one from Radio Shack, it does not work for this application. Get the original Motorola cable from Ebay.

You can test if you are getting blue towers by dialing #121. If you get a message saying that your call could not be completed or something along those lines, then you are using T-Mobile towers. However, if you get a "Welcome to VoiceInfo" greeting, then you are on blue towers. I believe the phone screen will say "Cingular" regardless which towers you are picking up. The fact that you get a little better signal now is because of the trees lost their leaves and signal can get to your house better, but once they grow back in the Spring, reception will go down again unless you can change your phone to pickup blue towers before that.

I did the #121 and got "welcome to voice mail" responce. But this took three tries since the signal was going in and out. Send me the e mails and I will look on e bay for the cable.

Unless you have "hacked" into the phone and told it to tell you what network name the tower is broadcasting

Yes it is, you need to edit your gain table. As Bobolito said earlier inthis thread its considered "underground" stuff to do, and your carrier doesn't support it. There is some nice software on www.motomodders.net that can change your gain table settings for you. Here is an excerpt from xlr8's updated seem map that has all known gain table hacks listed:

Ok, I have done quite a bit with trying all the programs from motomodder and I still can't get my phone to connect to P2KTools, in P2K mode, as motomodder suggests for boosting my volume, bobo I pm'd you about this. I have a cable that came with my MP3 player that allows my phone to do all the stuff that Phone Tools allows and P2KTools allows in AT mode but in P2K mode I have had zero luck. If I can do all that stuff above would you guys still suggest a different cable or is more likely me and my inability to install these programs correctly? I have uninstalled and installed programs probably 5 or 6 times from motomodder trying to accomplish just a volume boost on my razr, agggh.

The drivers can be very tricky if you are running Win xp w/ sp2 installed. There is an updated set of drivers on MM's site in the downloads section, but it is still tricky to get it to work.

Yeah, tricky is the operative word, that's for sure. I was almost ready to just go buy different phones but I just don't want to spend the money today. Instead my workaround at the moment is just to wear my jabra headset everywhere I drive and to get used to wearing it when I am out in public. I tend to wear it all day at work and when I am driving but for weekend trips like the mall until I can figure out how to boost the volume I guess I'll need the headset there as well. Almost like not having the razr at all as I can talk and end calls right from the headset, except seeing caller ID. Nothings perfect I guess.

Telecomjunkie, in my computer is a pain to get P2Kman to connect to my phone as well. But I read that installing PST 6.7 or above does the trick. So I installed it and now P2Kman connects to my phone. Sometimes it gets a little stubborn but I just open PST and then P2Kman at the same time and it connects fine. Give that a try.

Thanks for the help, but looks to complicated for me. I think I am a little novice at this, so I better wait till an easy way comes along.

Thanks though
