Did anyone see where Steve Jobs made the announcement about the new Apple iPhone being exclusive to AT&T's Cingular Network. I caught the story via AP in my local on-line paper. Looks pretty snazzy but a little too steep for my pocket right now. Any other opinions? Sorry I didn't include the link but I wasn't sure about the legality issues, but it's easy enough to find. |

Definitely a major coup for Cingular. As far as the phone goes, I am totally impressed at its design and specs, except for the lack of 3G support. That I don't understand. Since they are touting its function as an "internet communicator", why would they not include 3G, instead of relying on Edge? Makes me wonder. Especially since moving to 3G here, I really don't want to go back to any device that doesn't use it.

I also will like it to be a 3G handset, but I agree with wildrock, maybe is not the best move for Apple right now. In the other hand i see it difficult for current 3G users to go back to EDGE or GPRS (unless they realy don't care about data).

Actualy Motorola is active on 3 G in teh euro market as well as some others but not here in the US. The one that will be comming on the 3g for us is Razr Maxx. again they still are riding on the backs of the Razr. But I am ot sure about Appple, I just would like to know who is providing the GSM guts of the phone to them, I would not be surprised if it was not Motorola as they have the only ones who have included I tunes on their phones and this could be a colaboration effort between the 2. In addition, this now makes more sense as they have limited the amount of songs one can put o a Moto phone with Itunes and could have been very well a setup for this one.

thats the only thing this phone needs cuz the OS X operating system is great and its really efficient with memory which will make this phone fast when it comes to response time.........but yeah it really does need 3G and Cingular should take this chance during the AT&T/BellSouth merger to introduce a calling service to make phone calls over WiFi...............some kind of VOiP service.......idk

Apple: Calling all iPhone engineers Apple is putting out a call for engineers to join its ranks in an effort to beef up its iPhone. The hybrid hardware maker is looking to expand its work force, as it seeks to push its iPhone out the door by June. Beyond its hunt for computer geeks and hipster iPod project managers, Apple is listing jobs for a number of software and hardware engineers, as well as quality control testers, for its recently debuted iPhone. The company is looking to add 33 positions to its iPhone ranks, ranging from electronic engineers to an engineering project manager for its camera feature to a telephony embedded software engineer to develop more middleware features to add to its library. However, as Apple looks to bolster its brain base on its iPhone project, it's unclear whether it will allocate resources to features in which consumers appear to be most interested. In a recent informal CNET News.com poll on iPhone features, 23 percent of News.com readers found the multitouch interface feature stood out the most, while 14 percent chose full-fledged Mac OS X. But while Apple is looking to hire an iPhone engineering project manager for its camera feature, less than half a percent of the 6,187 News.com readers who responded to the poll listed that as an outstanding feature. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-6...?tag=nl.r28036 |

The one thing that ZI see and I don't like is the phone book. One has to scroll down and that could a be a painf when the contact list is close to 1000. I wish they shwed the quick jump to a letter or the ability to type the name in a simmilar fashion like the Blackberry does.

Here's another dose of antidote for the hype, from CNET... Thirteen reasons to doubt the iPhone hype by Tim Moynihan The honeymoon is over for the iPhone. It's not that we're sick of it already (well, maybe a bit), it's just time for it to answer some questions. Otherwise, it may join the Sony PS3 in the realm of "tech that looks absolutely amazing but is far too expensive for most people to even consider buying." Here, accompanied by rambling speculation, are those questions: SW
