Default Buy Pay as you go phone for contract-based usage

I'd like to get the Pantech C300 but have 6 months left on my contract with Cingular. Went to the store today and got an idea...I was wondering if the following would work:

Buy a pre-pay (or GOPhone) Pantech C300 for ~$119 and use my current SIM (contract-based) with it.

or are the pre-pay phones programmed differently than the regular contract phones, which would not allow me to use my Cingular contract SIM with a GOPhone phone?

If I just buy it out right, it will be $219. I figured i could save ~$100.

What do you mean that you put the simcard that came with it up for later?

Just want to clarify, so you inserted your contract-based sim card into the pantech c300 and it works great? i may go buy it right now!

Thanks btw...

Yes, as others have said, this will work. I have a Cingular phone (Nokia 6061) bought under a prepay offer and I swap my regular SIM card into it all the time. Works the same as my regular phone in that case.

Turns out, I like having a "backup" phone and I just keep it in my computer bag/briefcase with all my other junk, so I have it with me all the time. I sometimes use it as a GoPhone - this is not very expensive if you don't use it every day - or I swap cards if I need to use it a lot.
