Default Best phones from europe/asia adapted to cingular

I know there are a lot of people that have gotten GSM 850 (perhaps others?) phones from elsewhere and switched cards out, etc, to make them work here. Was just wondering if some people had opinions/favorites. The u.s. can be a little slow with the phones sometimes. Thanks!

The problem is most european models don't have the 850 band, so your coverage in the US is limited.

One of the European phones that has gotten a lot of attention lately for use with Cingular is the Nokia 6131. This is a quad-band phone, so it should have good US as well as European coverage. You can read more about it in the following thread.
6131

A virtually identical US version of this phone will probably be released by Cingular soon (Nokia 6126). It has been delayed several times, however, and some folks got tired of waiting.
