Default Cingular tower finder

The Cingular database for company-owned structures has been updated and is available for searches:

http://www.cingularsites.com/Cingula...eSitesearch.do

You will have to register to use the service and it only includes the sites on towers owned by Cingular. The information is pretty complete though, and all the sites I've looked up so far include pictures .

I know this is just a subset of the towers Cingular uses, but in my area it is a very limited subset. There are apparently no company-owned towers in Cambridge, MA or its neighboring communities of Somerville, Arlington, Belmont or Watertown. Boston, MA has exactly 2 towers listed. So, not super useful for this area, but the database was fun to play with.

I'm still hoping for that interactive signal mapping thingy like TMobile's. Has that been released?

Not yet, Steve. When that's released I think the server is going to be overloaded with all WA'ers and HoFo'ers trying to access it

They are mostly on rooftops in the urban areas like Boston-Cambridge-Somerville - no towers. Cingular is on the rooftop of the fancy hotel across the river from the new Garden. I forget the name of the place now, but it had great views of the new bridge and downtown.

Would that be the Royal Sonesta or Hotel Marlowe? Surely there is more than one Cingular tower/transmitter in Cambridge. How much area does one of these transmitters cover?

Is there any other way to find out where towers are and what frequency they are. this whole 850mhz thing is a big hassle with hardware. also it seems as if cingular has better coverage than t*M; but I get the feeling Cingular's all over network map may be exagerating somewhat. can anyone confirm or deny?

thanks AB

The Sonesta! Great view. There were several in the neighborhood, but it's been a few years and I'm only remembering the most interesting ones. There are a couple hundred from I-95 on into the city.

A few memorable ones:

Capitol Electric bldg - Mattapan
On top of school - Franklin Park
The old yellowish hotel in Back Bay with a view into Fenway.
The abandoned mental hospital at Danvers - spooky place
The abandoned hospital near Spot Pond - Melrose-ish area.
The Jewish Hospital - Roxbury
Another hospital in Dorchester - They are on almost every hospital.
Artsy theater in the middle of Chelsea.
The greenish boy scout building in Winthrop
Boston Herald building
Newton Town Hall - this one cannot be seen from outside the building.
The big power plant in town.
There is a microwave hub and site on the big building at the traffic circle at Mass Pike and Tremont St
Big hotel on Revere beach.
Old worn out warehouse in Revere.
There is also a site at the prison in the median of I-95 - Dedham I think.
The western end of Callahan tunnel - on the vent building in Boston.
