Why do you need engineering mode? Unless you understand what the different screens are telling you it's useless/

Cause I'm not like dumb america that settles for knowing that their devices work. I want to know how they work.. jay2therescue has made a few mentions of being able to see when the phone is switching towers.. etc... I just think it would be very cool. And I don't consider myself ignorant enough to not be able to decipher what the screen says.

Never mind. I answered my own question. Do you have a CDMA or GSM RAZR?

PCingAl;

I'm not saying you're dumb, just a question. The engineering mode on phones can have as many as 50 screens. For example if you want to see the phone change "towers" (which is actually sectors) you need to know which screen to go to. That's why I asked. By the way I know what all the information means (but I'm supposed to I'm an engineer) but unless you're looking for a problem it doesn't mean much to most people

My ears were burning... I knew someone was talking about me... LOL. Anyway, Yes you can look on the engineering screens and see the phone switch sectors, but the easiest and most convenient is to have the messages enabled. On my V551 I go to Settings/Engineering/Cell Management/Cell Change Warning/Message : ON Once this is enabled a small mesage will show on the main screen every time it switches. For instance my phone just displayed "Reselection 635 > 632" for about 2 seconds on the main display. This indicates that my phone switched from channel 635 to 632 on the 1900 band, and I didn't need to wade through the field test screens. I've been thinking of getting a V3 just to play with (But they're still too expensive just for experimentation purposes), and then release my own V3 monster pack with all those goodies enabled since I've gotten so many requests. If anyone has an old V3 lying around they'd like to donate to the cause PM me, I'll send you a prepaid shipping lablel.

Later, Jay

I'd like to upgrade straight to a 3G model, but Motorola doesn't offer a 3G model that can operate on 850 yet. I am strongly considering getting that Samsung 3G POS that Cingular is offering and then dumping it on Ebay when I can get a Motorola.

Jay;

Switching channels is not changing "towers" or sectors. That shows the hopping channels that are available. You have to go to a different screen to see the CELLID to see the phone handing over to different sectors (antennas).
