I'm a natural born skeptic, so I'll wait to see how well this works or how detailed the maps will be.

Yes they have, and a great one at that. I hope Cingular's is just as good. But I was talking about the CDMA carriers.

I am hoping to see it soon too & see if it's a typical Cingular sounds good but not as good as it should be or if they use something similar to T-Mobile's that gives excellent mapping coverage to street level.

Even though the maps are not available to the public online, a little bird confirmed they are working on making it available online. Whether it will be the same version of the maps available at the stores and how soon remains to be seen. For now, apparently there's a loophole you can use to access the MTI map tool. Just tether your Cingular phone to a laptop and go to http://gis.tdc.cingular.net/mti/csr/index.jsp. Even better, if you have a Cingular data card, it should be easier.

This will not work from any Internet connection. By what I was told, you need to be connected through Cingular proxy servers to access it, such as wireless.cingular.com. If anyone is able to confirm this, please post.

If it works, don't go crazy posting it all over. This is stuff Cingular doesn't want to be out there.
