Default no 1 year contracts available?

Hi everyone, I came across this forum while shopping for cell service and just spent four consecutive hours reading various threads... I have to say that this site is quite an impressive resource (thanks to it's knowledgable members!) 'cause I've already learned much more here in one place than I had trolling random sites all day yesterday! Bravo, everyone!

Well, I'm hoping one of you will know why I can't find any new Cingular contracts offered with less than 2 years in bondage? Is it because 1 year contracts do not exist with Cingular or is it because I am looking to the wrong online retailers (Amazon, Let'sTalk, Wirefly)? My contract with Verizon is almost over and I'm nearly set on switching to Cingular (based on info I've found here) but it would be a disappointing deal-breaker if I'd have to commit for 2 years.

Anyone know the password?

Authorized dealers get more money from Cingular signing people up on two year contracts, quite a bit more. Sometimes the 1 year contracts aren't profitable for these dealers, so they don't offer them. If you want a 1 year from Cingular it is best to visit a corporate store. They will do it, and you shouldn't get hassled to sign a two year.

The cingular stores in KY offer 1 year contracts. You have to visit a store. The online offers I have seen only have 2 year contracts.

The 1 year contract adds $50-$70 for to the cost of the phone usually listed.

And also isn't the 1 year activation fee higher?

The activation fee is the same for a 1 and 2 year contract, at least where I live in Kentucky.

Thumbs up Re: no 1 year contracts available?

That makes sense. I was hoping to get one of those great deals on a phone online but I guess I'll have to go to a store. Thanks, everyone!
