Default Will Cingular ever get "Power Vision" like Sprint?

I never really paid attention to Sprint because I had horrible service with them many many years ago when they were converting from Spectrum to PCS.

I was stuck/delayed on a plane the other day when the guy next to me took out his phone to watch TV. It was prety neat, TV, web access and radio all in the palm of your hand.

Will Cingular ever have this technology?

Cingular launched it's 3G networks this month in select markets and soon they will be getting the Nokia N80 to be used on this network. So, yes.

That's good news. I don't anything about this stuff... where can I find out more about what Cingular is up to?

Also, will the old GSM phones work on the new 3G network? And will the new 3G phones work on the old GSM network? I hope I'll have good reception in my area w/ 3G...

The 3G phones have GSM and WCDMA on them, with WCDMA being the new 3G tecnology. This is also known as UMTS. Also, Cingular will be installing HSPDA on it's UMTS network, software that makes it faster. Old GSM phones will still work while the new 3G network is active, but they aren't 3G capible. New 3G phones can take advantage of 3G features in 3G areas, and will work in GSM-only areas, with GSM-only features. No 3G. (Did we hit the whole alphabet? )

www.phonescoop.com has a lot of good cellular stories about the US. Or, you can stick around here and see what pops-up .

Cingular also has the MobiTV service which is the same company that provides the TV streaming service to Sprint. It works over Cingular's EDGE network which even though it is not full 3G, it offers sufficient speed for streaming TV on many cell phones.

Now, Sprint has totally redone itself since it launched as Sprint PCS back in 1996??....They are leading the industry when it comes to data and multimedia content on cell phones....and their prices are much better than Cingular's. Too bad their coverage is not so great in NJ so I can't use them.

What's the deal with that? As if the wireless world wasn't confusing enough to the layman, they have to come out with two names for the same thing? W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) And isn't W-CDMA/UMTS based on GSM (Global Standard for Mobile,) not CDMA... and GSM is just a different type of Time Division Multiple Access or TDMA. So what's up, does W-CDMA/UMTS use a time stamp or a coded stamp to utilize bandwidth?

All these acronyms have made me hungry...

Ok, I'm officially confused when you guys speak acronyms!

I realize that it has been almost 10yrs since I had Sprint, but they left a bad taste in my mouth. Too bad there's not an easy way to compare a few of the phones in your coverage area. I'd like to carry around a Sprint, Cingular and Verizon phone and see which one is best in the areas I use.

Anyone know approx. how long it was take before Cingular releases there 3G phones? Other than online enthusiast forums, I haven't heard anything...

I know there have been released dates for the Nokia N80, but I can't exactly remember. It was either by the end of the year, or at the beginning of next year. Someone help me!

And where did you hear this? Nowhere does it say that it is cancelled... and Cingular had big plans for this phone so as much as I hate them, I don't think they are that stupid.

Geez, just checked out the Cingular MobiTV plan. It's $10 for the TV service and an additional $20 for the unlimited Media Net service. Sprint's is $20 and includes unlimited messaging services...

I wonder if Cingular will ever lower their prices?
