I live in the Cincinnati area and I was wondering if I should go tri-band or quad-band when buying a phone. Or does it even matter!? Which phone should I buy? Thank you.

If you are not going out of the USA, Canada or Latin America even a dual-band phone is ok. Now, beware of the tribands! Some of them don't have 850Mhz and you never want to use one of those in the US. A triband that has 850Mhz is good enough. A quad-band is great too for use in any GSM network in the world.

What four frequencies are quad-band? I know that 850 and 1900 are the important ones. I've seen the Razor phone, does that have good reviews?

The quad's have four frequencies. 850/1900 are US and some areas like Bermuda, Bahamas. 900/1800 are used in Europe, Asia and the most of the non US world (except Japan). 850 sometimes is called 800, but never 900. Tribands for use with Cingular should be 850/1900 and 900 or 1800. Quads have all 4. 99% of the time, the triband 850/1900/1800 is fine around the world. Another choice for Cingular tri would be 850/900/1900, but these are rare. The Razr has good reviews. It is a quad. Search these forums for reviews. Almost all the Quads are from Motorola, Nokia may have one out by the end of this year. Blackberry, Treo (Plam) also offer quads. | |

I am not sure what you are looking for in a phone, but the Siemens SX66 is also a quad band phone from Cingular. My experience with it althought quite short, (barely 24 hours...LOL) was very good as far as reception goes.

850/1900 is used in all of the Americas from Alaska down to Argentina. Some countries in this side of the world have either 900 or 1800 (in addition to 850/1900) such as Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru and some Caribbean islands. I believe there is some 850Mhz in Asia in some countries but they don't use it for GSM.

I travel a lot overseas so a quad band would be best. I have a tri band 850, 1800, 1900. The quads add 900. Most of europe uses 900 and or 1800. Only a few countries that the US tri band woudn't work in but if you travel a quad would be great! With Europe going 3g it will be intersting how this all pans out. I think they are using 2100 for the 3g part so we need a super band phone witht he US 3g being different. |

You got it, Europe, Japan and South Korea have 3G at 2100 Mhz. I have a triband and a quadband phone so here in Europe, I've got the necessary coverage.
