I bought tri -band phone GSM 900/1800/1900 and it doesn't work as good as my previous phone. Is the problem that I don't have 850 MHz?

Possibly, it depends on where you are and what phone it is. Where I am (Arkansas) Cingular uses 850 so if I got a tri-band phone without the 850 the phone wouldn't work here.

A while ago there was a post (which of course I can't find) that showed a map of Cingular's 1900 MHz coverage, and a map of their combined 850/1900 MHz coverage. The difference was remarkable. Depending on where you are and how much you travel, you may lose a great deal of coverage with 1900 MHz only. They also say that 850 MHz penetrates buildings better, if that matters to you. |
