Hi WA folks.... haven't been on here in about a year, hope everyone is doing well!!! Background: My wife and I have been happily on a Cingular (Orange) family plan ....(2 lines, 550 anytime voice minutes, free M/M, etc. for $50 with my workplace discount) for quite a while - we are out of contract now. I don't have data, web, text messaging, etc. In other words, just basic voice at this time. However, my wife is now getting a hankering for the iPhone, so I was online looking at upgrade paths last night. My question is simple: Can I retain my current 550 min voice plan (with a new 2 yr signup) and just upgrade her phone to an iPhone? Of course I would need to add a $30 data plan to enable the iPhone. Or are there special voice plans that are mandated for the iPhone? The online system let me do what I described above but I wanted to make sure before I press the Pay Now button. Of course I could stop by the local AT&T store and ask them, but I trust you guys more.

Yes, it would just be the $30 data charge on top of your normal plan.

| Yes, I can second MobileMike's answer. I upgraded 2 iphones on launch day (on the family plan) and then did a third one around Christmas time. Each maintained the same voice contract; only added the $30 per phone data plan. One was actually a BB and they just prorated and switched over to iphone. I also added the family plan text messaging package. It a good deal only if you both text alot. welcome back!

Thanks, Viewfly!! Might mosey on over to the AT&T store tomorrow to check out the iPhone. Before I succumb to the hype, are there any other phones I should consider as a less expensive alternative for web access, etc.?

Well, the deed is done. We went to the AT&T store over the weekend where my wife test drove the iPhone and got it. Now I'm jealous.... might get one myself next weekend.

You may have to be the back seat driver for a while since you have been on this forum checking things out. A dangerous position to be in. Best, VF
