Default iPhone 3G battery problems

Hey WA,

In the past few days I have been noticing a significant amount of battery drainage. It seems like my battery is already aging. When I bought my iPhone in the beginning of August it had fairly average battery life, but now it's really going downhill. I restored my phone last Monday and it didn't help. I like the phone and everything, but the battery is really starting to annoy me. I'll send about 20 texts over about a 2 hour period and it will be almost half way dead. My 'ole Curve stomp the crap out of my iPhone battery wise. Has anyone else noticed/experienced this with their iPhone yet?

P.S: I get about 4.5 hours of usage before I have to charge.

Alien.

4.5 hours of usage is not bad, depending what is on and the kind of usage. Can you give more details? GPS, wifi on? etc.

GPS off, WiFi off, 3G off (no 3G in my area at all).

Most of the usage is checking/sending emails and texting. When I talk on the phone usually it's plugged in, so that shouldn't effect the battery in theory.

I assume the Brightness is down to 20% or less; set to Auto too. That's a big deal, esp if texting alot. Are you pushing mail, or manual?

20 messages is not much, so that's a contradiction to the 4.5hours of usage.

Hmm, if you are always plugged in, maybe you should recalibrate the battery meter by running the battery down to zero...past the 20 and 10% warning until it turns off. Then turn it on again, until it turns off again. Then do a full recharge without using the phone. That could be the problem.

Otherwise, you may have a bum battery. Take it to apple for a warranty exchange or see what they think.
