I just got back from a Target store in Queensbury / Glens Falls, NY, and they were selling an Alltel prepaid phone for $50 (I believe is was LG AX265), and I couldn't believe it would be available outside of their licensed area. I was talking about getting it for my friend here, and if I did, which I probably won't, I told him that they wouldn't be able to give him a local (518 area code) number. And that if you tell them where you are, they may not even activate it for you. So how would it work up here when your constantly roaming on VZW or Sprint. I know Verizon already grabbed Alltel, but not sure how and why Alltel would have it for sale here (unless it's nationwide at Target, which I'm not sure of).

Images: 2 | Wirelessly posted (Samsung e315: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100) T-mobile has done the same too. I think you could purchase prepaid kits in the Carolinas even thoug they had little native service there until last year when they bought Suncom.
