The answer is maybe and maybe not. It depends. Many PIABs (Phone in a Box, which are prepaid phones) are locked into prepay only. We occasionally run across these. People will try to switch them from prepay to contract status. The system allows the ESN to be changed, but then the OTA (over the air programming fails). We try to program them manually and discover the Service Programming Code (SPC) that we have the handset doens't work. That tells us at that point the phone is Prepay only. So you can try. The worst thing that will happen is that it won't work. |

I have a prepaid phone (Kyocera) that is for prepaid ONLY. I tried to add it to my plan for my folks but was told I couldn't by Alltel. I would think they should rethink their decision on this. They could possibly be losing potential long-term customers. I know very many people who started with a prepaid and went to a contract service after 3-6 months. Alltel is rolling the dice on losing these potential customers to another company........imnsho! |

It won't be the same though Bryan. You gotta admit that things will start changing and fast.

Most current Alltel prepaid phones should work, if the phone says "Simple Freedom" it won't work. Simple Freedom was a prepaid service from Wal-Mart that used Alltel's network.

The few phones at Wal Mart that I was looking at said "U prepaid" I really liked the Samsung myshot they had for like $60.00. I may get that phone here in a couple weeks... Can the "U Prepaid" phones be activated on a post paid plan?
