A friend of my daughters is giving her an enV, but it's a Verizon phone. She has Alltel & her Rokr is tearing up (out of warranty by less than 6 months!).
Is there any way she can get it to work w/Alltel?

probably if you call customer service and DO NOT tell them it is a verizon phone. just say you lost your phone and someone gave you this phone just read them the ESN number and they should do it .also they will be verizon in 6 months anyway.

So if I do this & they hook it up to their network, I won't have any roaming issues?
The plan she has is the National Freedom.

Who is to say? It probably will not program using OTA provisioning, meaning you will have to tell the rep the make & model. They will IMMEDIATELY stop helping you at that point as Alltel does not nor have they EVER sold that phone.

As for roaming issue? Probably yes. I've dealt with many folks who smuggled their Verizon phone to Alltel and every one of them had roaming charges on their bill, which we did NOT adjust as they were using foreign equipment on the Alltel network.

Oh, and Verizon and Alltel have NOT merged. Saying it will all be Verizon in six months is a not just a bit, but a LOT premature. It can easily be killed by the DOJ, the FCC or the SEC. Once done it's not even be decided what the name will be.
