I know someone that is roaming right now on the Alltel network. It is a Alltel phone. For some reason, it is not receving calls. He can make outgoing but just no incoming. any ideas? Tech support just tells him to reset the phone.

What exactly do you mean roaming on the ALLTEL network? I'm not sure I see how an ALLTEL phone could 'roam' on the ALLTEL network?

Even though they're not on their home SID it should still let them perform a PRL update.

Just like Moto said. He is not on his home SID. I was "roaming" when I was in LA. Anyways further research has determined that he is not on Alltel. He is in Baltimore,MD. Roaming on Sprint. He thought he was on Alltel because when he called 611, he got Alltel. He did not know that it now forwards to Alltel no matter if you are on Verizon or Alltel. I told him how to force the phone over to Verizon, problem solved. Now he can recieve and place calls on Verizon's network in MD. Sprint has a problem tonight.

Problem is definitely Sprint's network there. I had a friend with nTelos in Baltimore last week and didn't receive a single call. He was mad thinking it was nTelos's fault, now I feel more comfortable shifting the blame over to Sprint! |

Me too. What I found sad is that Alltel tech support could not help him. I had to find the temporary solution. Now the ball is in Alltel's field. I hope they find the problem and pressure Sprint to get it fixed ASAP. I don't want to have to tell everyone the following. When in Baltimore, force your phone over to Verizon! I also noticed that Sprints SID for Baltimore also covers Wash DC, PA, WV and around there. I wonder if this problem would be in our nations capital and amish country?

| We used to do that all the time. However, we have not been able to do that with any of the newer Alltel phones. Before Verizon became the preferred roaming partner in the Greenville, SC (now Columbia, SC) market, US Cellular was the PRP. US Cellular had really poor reception in most areas compared to Verizon. On our Local Freedom (NC, SC) plan there were never any roaming charges in those areas so we would force customers phone to Verizon by programming both NAMS of the phone (2nd NAM to Verizon) and teaching the customer how to switch between them. Although the US Cellular SID #246 is no longer in the Alltel PRL for National Freedom plans, to this date Alltel still does not charge when a customer uses it. Now we have some customers in a few areas that need the US Cellular SID, but even if we program the phone's #2 NAM to US Cellular as the home SID the newer phones no longer pick it up. US Cellular is now only picked up if Alltel, Verizon, and Sprint are not available. Got any Suggestions on making the phone pick up the US Cellular signal??? We have run into the Sprint issue in our area with Contract Customer not being able to make calls about 1 week ago when they were on Sprint and our prepaid customers are getting a message, Can Not Authenticate Phone Number, when our customers pick Spring up. No problem when they get Verizon. We live right on the border of NC/SC and Alltel doesn't own Western NC were many of our customer frequently travel. Going back to our old Long Distance heritage, it seems like Sprint doesn't have the Alltel exchanges loaded in its Database but so far it has been impossible to get Tech Support to understand that. Does anyone know if this Sprint Problem is a recognized problem and been fixed? |

I did notice the thread was old just after I posted to it. Had I noticed earlier I would have considered a new one because the information I posted is within the last month. Since you appear to be an authority perhaps you could get the Forum to quit suggesting the users might be interested in these similar threads. |

Images: 316 | Landrum is next to I-26, right on the NC state line. It's NW of Spartanburg, NE of Greenville, and SE of Asheville. I go there often, it's a nice little town just south of the Blue Ridge Mountains It is about a half hour drive from my location in Gaffney...

Also, you can also request the underlying provider to provide a prl that fixes that problem for both Contract and your prepaid customers. They may even have a special number to load prl for just your customers. Side note I know this is an old post, I thought this person might want to know this, if they are still around. | |
