Does anyone know if a Alltel Treo 650 will work with Alltel's U prepaid service? If not, is there any Alltel phone that you can use to access the internet using U prepaid or will I have to get a contract account?

Yes i will... if you have it already just bring it in to a Alltel retail store... You can find one at www.alltel.com... there are fee's of course... a 35 dollars new service fee... you have to put down at least 20 dollars in store... if you don't have a treo 650 already you will have to pay the pre paid price for it |

Thanks for the info. I have called two Alltel local stores and they both told me that my Treo 650 "would not" work with U prepaid. Do they tell you this just because they want to sell you another phone? I hate to have the Treo just laying around in a drawer, it would make a good back up phone on prepaid if it does work.

alltel does not allow smart phones on pre-pay. it causes issues since the data is pinging the network constantly and pulls the network down. we have had some "snuck on" by people calling call centers and lying about the phone or retail reps adding them anyway. thats why we have to audit esns and remove them as they are added.

no. only smartphones since they all have the same sequence of numbers (first 4). if a VZ phone gets turned on, we are not going to turn it off.

people lie and say they are an alltel phone.. then freak out when they have a huge bill since the software is incorrect in the phone and the phone roams on non-preferred networks.

it may update the prl but the phone gui is still verizon. if you get someone to flash it, then you should be ok. alltel will not flash the phone for you but you can sometimes find flash kits. Be careful. flashing can kill your phone.
