Ever heard of Voce? They were a "high-end" MVNO that piggybacked off of AT&T and offered a concierge and various other services to their customers. Their all-in monthly plan with no contract or early termination fee might have been attractive for some people, but as of today, Voce has kicked the bucket. We got reports of customers waking up to their phones cut off. No notice — nothing! The worst part? Most of them were already charged the next month monthly service fee and since customer service is a wrap, they can’t even port their numbers to another carrier! I guess the "Personal Assistant" can’t cut your phone back on, huh?

This reminds me of what happened to SunRocket and it's customers back in July 2007 (I was one of those affected).
There was no notice at all, but then the service was temporarily turned back on a few days later.
This gave customers a chance to switch (port number) to someone else.

Indeed. Very similar to SunRocket...

I was a Voce customer for about 6 months. I blogged about the day's experience @ Voce service not so clever | QLVR Version 0.5

Needless to say, I'm an AT&T customer now. I stopped by a store in Manhattan and now have one of their SIMs in my e61i. They WERE able to port my number over since they had Voce listed as a t-Mobile authorized reseller. That was the last bit of irony considering Voce bought minutes from both AT&T and t-Mobile...

Looking back, I suppose I should have seen the writing on the wall when they kept lowering prices. This indicated that they were trying to acquire more customers since that had not done a good job of selling their value proposition. Personally, for me, the value was having two networks available more so than their "ok" virtual concierge service.
