Hi all...a real cell phone novice here in need of some expert advice: I bought a LG CU400 phone on ebay that was obviously marketed for Cingular service. The phone has all of the features I'm looking for but I would prefer to keep my current Metro PCS service. How do I go about converting the new LG phone to Metro service? Also, my current Metro phone (Nokia) does not have a sim card but the LG phone does. Is the sim card absolutely required for the LG phone to work? Please advise if you can. Thanks. |

Hi there macjad, Welcome To Wireless Advisor! Unfortunately you will not be able to use your CU400 with Metro PCS Service. Reason for this is that Cingular uses GSM technology, whereas Metro PCS uses CDMA service- one hint at that is the fact that your Metro phone does not have a SIM card but your Nokia requires one. That is a difference between CDMA and GSM. What you could do is get your LG unlocked, which will make it work with any GSM carrier in the United States, so you could even use it with a service like T-Mobile if you'd like to. I hope this helps, even though it's probably not what you want to hear. Andy |

Hi Andy and thanks for the info...so the LG CU400 (GSM) is totally incompatible with the Metro service (CDMA)...yeah, you're right...not what I wanted to hear. Sure wish there was a way to make it work.

The LG phone is completely and utterly incompatible with Metro PCS Service and there is no way to make it work. Like I said, though, you are not forced to use it with AT&T service. IF the phone is unlocked (or if it's not you can easily get it unlocked) you can use it with any GSM service provider. | |
