Can anyone tell me what I am looking for in a phone that will work with my old ATT contract? I don't want to upgrade/migrate and both my old phones died. My Nokia 3595 is a GSM phone I think, so do I just need any GSM phone that is unlocked? THANKS! Daniel |

I may be wrong but wouldn't an unbranded/unlocked phone underperform on the cingular network w/ an AT&T SIM? I thought cingular included special software on their phones so that they can operate on the AT&T and Cingular networks as one. Is it possible that doing this will make the phone operate only on the AT&T network and not "roam" on Cingular creating reduced coverage? I could be wrong, and if so please correct me. I'm thinking you may be better off buying a used GSM phone that is branded AT&T. -Jay | |

That may very well be. However using such a customized and locked phone makes it very difficult to use with other providers. Even if such software exists, it could probably be updated for unbranded/unlocked phones via an OTA update which tells the SIM to apply the latest changes such as new roaming or tower usage preferences.

That's probably the best solution, AT&T phones and AT&T SIMs should definitely go hand in hand as far as compatibility goes. What phone would you recommend, Jay?
