Images: 21 | Siemens To Unveil Guideline On Mobile Phone Future Wednesday FRANKFURT - Siemens AG will present "a guideline" Wednesday on the solutions most appropriate for its loss-making mobile phone unit, Siemens spokesman Wolfram Trost said Monday. Siemens is scheduled to issue its second-quarter results Wednesday in Lisbon. It has said it's looking into four options for the future of its mobile phone unit: fix, sell, partner or close. Although German media reports over the weekend and Monday speculated that the German engineering giant is in advanced talks with an alliance partner, Trost said that "we're not going to present a partner Wednesday." Earlier Monday, Taiwan's Acer Inc, identified by German media as one of the speculated alliance partners together with Motorola Inc. of the U.S. and Canada's Nortel Networks Corp, dismissed any involvement in Siemens' mobile phone unit. http://www.siemens.com

I hope Siemens keeps it going some how. Their frist few US phones had horrible UIs and software glitches. As of late they have improved greatly, but I think their name alone is the main factor that has made them not sell a lot of handsets. They should partner up with another manufacturer, so they can rebrand their handsets. The only manufacturers that I think have better phones with both great RF & sound quality are Moto & Samsung.

Wow, I can't wait to see whom they end up with. I doubt that they would partner up with Nokia since Nokia is very much bent on staying independent without being drawn into a situation which is slightly unpredictable.

I know a lot of people when I say "Yea I might get a Siemens S66" and they go, "What the hell did you say?!" So I have to explain to them that I'm talking about a phone brand. THey really should partner up with someone (like Motorola) and make an "S" series of phones under them.
