Default Alternative to Audiovox 9500

I don't believe the Audiovox CDM-9500 is going to be worth $350 with a 2 year contract, so I think all of you waiting for this phone should wait for the Samsung SCH-A530 coming on Verizon. I thought the CDM-9500 was going to be better until I found out about this phone. It should be less than $350, and it has dual color LCDs (that's right, color on the outside caller ID, a first for Verizon and Samsung) yet it has 5 days standby time on the standard battery and 3 hours talk time! For a phone with two color LCDs, that's magical, if you ask me. The CDM-9500 lacks in many areas, but the A530 seems to deliver in all.

Here's some links on the phone:

From a post in the Samsung section (click the link in the first post):
http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/wafor...threadid=11691

From phonescoop.com:
http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=207

Just my own opinion. Nobody is saying the phone is better or trying to change your mind on the 9500, just offerring an alternative.

Well I have a 8300 sitting right in front of me (San Diego/CA) $120 w/ one year contract but of course this phone ain't staying, it's going to go right back! Phonescoop has some erroneous information, the phone does not have BREW, yes, I know because I have it, got it last night. The keys are cramped and the joystick is not reliable ( it's also used as an "enter" key by pressing down on it which doesn't always work!) The VR (Voice Recognition) feauture is also questionable, not quite reliable. The speakerphone feature is nice though, really wished many new phones would have it. Nice phone for people looking for the basics, but I demand a lot more from a phone.

The 9500 also does not look promising, the rated talk time is like 1.58h, and this phone does not even have an extended battery. I don't know about you guys but I can easily log in 3 hours in one day!

The VX200 is lagging, the 4400 is lagging, everyting @ verzion is lagging!!!! ahhh, I love the service, but the phones and all the "red tape" really stinks!!!

I agree with your idea of the 9500 not looking promising. I haven't liked the phone since I first layed eyes upon it. I think the A530, the (hopefully) upcoming V60e, and the VX-4400 are simply signs of things to come. All of this time Verizon has just been focused on their service, with conservative phones, and I believe that now they are focusing more on the phone portion. Give them some time to make their changes, and soon you'll have great phones -and- great service. For those without the patience, there are plenty of other carriers offering 50% of that (great phones).

Anyone else notice coreythegent tries to sound a whole lot more intelligent than he could ever possibly dream of being? I find it to be mildly obnoxious. So much so that I created a login to illustrate just such a point...

Quote:

Could this statement be any more transparent? If you were just sharing your own opinion, then you wouldn't have to specify. You're clearly forcing your opinion on others; trying to assimilate the wirelessadvisor forum-dwellers into a line of thought similiar to your own (which, by the way, is quite presumptuous). Within about 30 seconds of searching for info on the 9500 in these forums I found about 10 messages written out by yourself slagging on this phone, which you haven't even seen in person. One or two of the posts even contained misinformation. Why would you do such a thing? I'm guessing you're just a smidge mentally disturbed. You have some sort of an ego problem which you're trying to work through on this internet forum. I've seen it on other forums many times. You fit the profile quite nicely.

I'll admit, I'm not a forum regular. I've only been reading the forums for a couple of days, but in those 2 days I have read a months worth of posts of you spouting off baseless garbage about various phones. Its enough to make me want to puke (ok not really but it sounded good).

I feel like I should post something constructive because I really do have a lot of useful opinions to share regarding all of the current flips verizon is offering, but I feel like this flame has gotten way too far out of control to try and go that direction at this point...oh well. You are a sad case. Good luck working through whatever it is you've been through, and try not to take it out on the phones anymore. The poor, innocent 9500 doesn't deserve it. I think its a rather nice looking phone, btw (yea I've seen it IN PERSON also). The other stats on it...not so great. Definitely not $349 worth anyway...certainly worth a t720 or an a310 or 2, though.

Not agreeing or disagreeing but that was well written and articulated. It is refreshing to know that there are still educated people out there.

It depends on your zip code. I don't see it either. However I did see the 8300 in the Verizon store this weekend. I didn't like the joystick at all. It looked like it would be difficult to use.

Default Alternative to Audiovox 9500

Just got the CDM 9500 today and played around with it for the better part of the day. Bottom line, is looks like a far better phone than the T720 so far. I found the display and ringers to be far better than the 720. I placed numerous test calls out on it and found the earpiece volume was more than sufficient. The menu navigation does not have the same lag that the 720 posesses. The drawbacks I found was that the battery life leaves something to desire, however it is a rather small battery that comes with the phone and I do not have an extended to test out yet. The antenna on this phone is a monster! It reminded me of the handheld you see the platoon leader using in a Vietnam movie. It is easily 2 1/2 times the length of the phone when fully extended. This does have its advantages in terms of reception, when fully extended in challenged area this model was getting at least 80% (4 bars) while my 720 with the antenna extended was getting 1-2 bars. Anyhow, stay tuned and give me another week to put the phone through its paces and I will tell you about any disadvantages / advantages it has versus other offerings available. BTW the phone wil be available tomorrow for 399 (1 year) 349 (2 year).

Very insightful Mr Snowball... It is nice to hear an unbiased opinion. Is this stuff I hear about a lack of an external (flipped closed) ringer mute true? That, alone, is probably enough to deter me from the phone...even if it were only 60 bucks. Everything else seems to sound great, though. How's the earpiece volume in relation to the T720? Personally, I ended up trading my own T720 for an A310 after 2 days because the earpiece volume was quite insufficient for my needs (seems like a motorola issue if you ask me...).

Not to go off on an a310 tangent, but I love this thing in comparison to the T720 I had. This phone seems to have a much more sophisticated menu system/date book/phone book (seems to be a samsung issue if you ask me...). The only things it is really lacking are some type of brew/getitnow features and a much overhyped color screen (I'd almost prefer the electric blue monochrome to any color phone out there right now).

The zip code that I was talking about was 48313. We recieved the 9500's this weekend, and while the phone does look very promising, great color screen, speaker phone, and so on... the phone is friggin' huge! I am sure I will test it out soon, but right now, I will stick with my 2235.

Default Alternative to Audiovox 9500

Well, jeldrid, had this been the "WedMD.org" forum your big post on my "mental issue" would fit greatly. This site is about cell phones, however. You remind me of another nut whom tried to evaluate me on some psychological tip. Do me a favor and fax me your degree in psychology, then come talk to me.

Believe it or not, I've been playing with the 9500 for quite some time now. I travel around this country often, and friends of mine in a Verizon store in California let me use it. I evaluated the phone thoroughly before I gave any opinions, yet I failed to speak on the earpiece, battery life, etc. because the phone I used wasn't a finished phone.

How is my opinion biased, as if I have some sort of vendetta against Audiovox? I love their phones, my first phone with Verizon was a CDM-9000. I just wasn't pleased with the idea of them offering a phone for $350 that doesn't deliver on all levels. Perhaps I work for Samsung, is your argument? You're wrong there as well.

I'm sure my opinions vary greatly in my posts, because I daily find out new things about a phone and my mind changes with new information. I am not going to go back and delete all my old posts just for your satisfaction. Find yourself a life, rather than going through the forum like a degenerate and trying to make a technicality out of everything I say.

I said what I said because I found out the Samsung a530 was going to be $299 with some sort of rebate and the CDM-9500 was going to be $350. Believe it or not, there are some people who come on this forum just to this section and were focused on only a CDM-9500, so I wanted to give them an alternative to think about. They also come on here to see the opinions of everyone. While I say I don't like the CDM-9500, there is someone else saying they love the CDM-9500, just the way it's supposed to be.

Everything I -SAY- is my opinion, jeldrid. The people on this forum are not my children, I can't force what I say on anyone. Everybody has the right to take it how they want it. You don't like what I have to say, you can just scroll past my posts.

From now on, just talk about phones instead of trying to impersonate a psychologist. This is the wirelessadvisor forum, not "How many big words can Jeldrid use in one post" forum. No matter how many more posts you devote to trying to intimidate me, you'll never get the job done.

How incredibly childish of you... You want credit? Run a web page. Until then stfu. Information spreads in different ways. That is the nature of our world. It does not always arrive intact, but hey...we can learn to cope if we are patient. Whining for credit accomplishes nothing other than making yourself look like an ___ and her look irresponsible for not posting the "full story" (which she actually HAD DONE to the extent her available info allowed). End result...you're still an ___ because your whining about "credit," whatever the hell that is, and she's still a responsible and friendly person because she was just sharing what info she had been given. You remind me of all the l33t w4r3z d3wdz who repackage software so that it can be easily distributed for free and then expect massive amounts of internet fortune and fame because of it. Well look around....this is not a gaming forum. There aren't enough 12 year olds here that care enough to credit you for some useful information that another person would have discovered and posted 3 days after you did...had you not shared.
I believe that was in the Motorola forums, where you followed me to post that quick message about it not being the A310 and attempted to take a shot at me with "must have been a bad phone you were playing with in the Verizon store." That's all you came to this Forum for, is to go around making your snide remarks. It's a "bully syndrome," it makes you feel better about yourself. I feel sorry for the woman who has to go to bed with you every night. Hell, until now, I thought -you- were a woman.

Then you got nerve to talk about the many insults I had in one of my posts to you. Jelly, everything you SAY is an attempted insult. That whole damn post about me "trying to sound more intelligent than I could ever be" is an insult. All you do is contradict yourself. You're a very bitter person, Jelly. And I'm not trying to insult you.. I'm giving you my opinion.

FYI. ALLTEL will be releasing the 9500 on Nov 29th (changed from 27th) for $299.95 with a one year contract. At this time there will not be a two year options, but I'm sure it will drop soon enough.

I believe the $350.00 Corey the gent was talking about was a without contract extension or new contract price. Like if I were to go and get the phone and dont want to sign a new contract or extend my current contract the price would be around 350.

As far as I'm concerned the post regarding credit was justified. An innocent person was being attacked for no apparent reason and the person responsible was not justified. I might have been harsh, but so was the poster I was responding to...fire with fire you know. Taking posts out of context is not nice....posting a link to the thread would have been sufficient, but apparently you feel the need to disparage my image on these forums as if that is something that matters to me.

There was no shot taken at you regarding the a310. I apologise, once again, if I came off that way. I only mentioned the broken phone issue because I have personally seen broken phones that do this and mistaken the breakage for a feature for about 20 seconds. Had I put the phone down after 10 seconds, that perception might have stuck.

As far as my problems go? Entertainment is my #1 priority on these forums....helping people who deserve it is #2. Run along children (sorry I had to throw in at least 1 baseless insult to combat the 20 that have been thrown at me).

At Verizon Wireless, the Audiovox 9500 is $249.99 after a $100 mail in rebate with a 2 year. And to clear up a misstatement earlier, there IS an extended battery.

I just got the 9500 last night. I asked about rebates, but Verizon store people had no clue. Some did not even know they had that phone.
Since I wanted to get rid of Motorola 720 ASAP, I ended up paying $350.
The extended battery sells for $49.99 after $10 instant rebate, and is supposed to provide 200 min talk time / 160 hrs standby. It makes the phone slightly thicker, maybe 1/8 in.

I will apologize, Jeldrid. I suppose you simply took what I meant to do wrong. If I -did- try to force my opinion on anybody, then I am also sorry for that. I just like to offer everyone my ideas, because there are plenty of people whom think like me, and I've saved "many a bad decision" on this forum in terms of what phone to buy.

The Audiovox rebates haven't been delivered in full, yet. The Verizon store I use also has the phone for $350 with no rebate. Only other option I have is the VZW website, and they have the phone listed as $350 because rebates deal specifically with the Audiovox Corp. and not Verizon.

If you can get the phone for $250 and you love it, then more power to you. Whomever bought it for $350, you should probably take it back, go back to your old phone and plan (if you can) and buy it again when the rebates arrive. If you don't have an older phone, then you can cancel the contract and phone when you take it back and simply order a 9500 over the phone (1-800-922-0204). It will arrive 2 Day Air FedEx and should include the rebate. I'd think the trouble was worth $100.
