Hi here is my thoughts on getting a new phone. Currently I have the i300 (PDA Phone) which I'm going to get rid of because it's a log and I rarely use the PDA. My choices are the a500 or the 5150 or 5300 if it comes out within the next week. I'm leaning towards the 5150 because I want to be able to use USB from my PC to setup ringers, photos, games, etc and not have to go through that vision crap which I see that USb to PC transfer is not available on the a500 only the 5150. Also, if I don't get vision with the 5150 can I use the sprint wireless web with a free and clear plan and not get charged the .2kb ripoff. To me the only advantages I see having the a500 is the TFT screen and the 3G data which I will probably not use. Basically could someone tell me why I shouldn't buy the 5150 or what I'm missing with the a500. Thanks. John |

only 2 things about the 5150 that are negatives IMO. the earpiece sweetspot is too small and not loud enough. also some of the polyphonic ringers from R&M do not ring loud enough though the regular ringers on the 5150 are plenty loud.

if you dont care for vision. Then definitely get the sanyo 5150. It also depends on the area you will be using your phone primarily. I live in a sprint weak spot where samsungs dont really work (tons dropped calls), but the sanyos work near flawless. Something for you to think about. Oh FYI samsung a500 has horrible battery life. But they are offering free extended batteries. Just a few minutes ago, my roommate was swearing up a storm at his samsung n240 (after his 15th dropped call). And ask to use my sanyo 5150. |

Basically if I get the data cable and software I can get all the vision crap for free right? Just download to my PC and transfer to the phone via USB... CAn I surf the web without vision though? |

Yes if you get the sanyo 5150, you can use the data cable and software to directly download pics/ringers to your handset without any charge. You can surf the web at 2G speeds. If vision is important to you, then you should chose the A500, because it has a much better color display and 3G vision wireless web capabilities (speed, games etc). But you have to pay more for vision plans. If you are in no rush to switch phones, then wait for the sanyo 5300. It will have a built in camera with flash. The camera cost $100 for you to buy it seperately as an accessary for the A500. And sanyos outperform samsungs without a doubt. You should consider the Sanyo 4900 as well. Much better phone at half the price of the A500 |

I think Im gonna just go with the 5150 cus I just really use the web for scores and I don't want to pay .2kb when it's included now. Basically I just see vision as a trap they give you a cool phone (a500) and take away PC connection forcing you to spend $10 plus/month aon crap you can download to your pc for free and transfer USB with ease.

I currently have an I300 also, you are right it is a log....The Handspring Treo was not on your list, but it is also another great alternative to your current phone....it is the best smartphone I have ever used...the built in keyboard makes a huge difference, plus it's got great reception. If you definitaly want to go smaller either the LG 5350 or Sanyo 4900 are available, you can also bundle in a data cable for the 4900...I believe there is a special on it right now...the phone is normally 179.99 by itself, but if you bundle with the data cable you get it for 199.99, you would want to go on a vision plan, but currently if you go with the 4900 with the data cable option instead of 14 days to try the phone and service out you would get a 60 day trial period, the same is true of the Treo...(this assumes you are activating a new line of service.)
