I hear *18 being mentioned several times, but I don't know what that does....with Verizon. I heard it had something to do when you are roaming. Can anyone explain this to me....thanks!!

Yeah, I heard it also last night at a Verizon store. A Doctor came in mad as hell because his StarTac wasn't alerting him of VM from the hospital. He mentioned that the last time he was in that they typed it in to try to clear up the problem.

I also believe it only works if your phone uses the 800 Mz CDMA frequency. |

I am with alltel in Ark., I was in Miami last month, could make calls - not receive calls. Stoped by the Verizon store and did the *18 and wow it was working right. Verizon in Miami is 1900 mtz

*18 will activate "automatic call delivery". On some of the older networks this has to be done to receive calls.

So do you just dial *18 and then hang up, and then place your call? I have had problems in some rural areas of GA where I couldn't place a call. Is that my problem?

Sometimes that is the problem. You can also try changing the phone from the "A" side to the "B" side of the system. But make sure you change it back when you leave.

yeah, I've tried swapping from A to B. That doesn't do it. I just get a different message telling me that I can't place a call on that particular network.

yes, *18 send lets the network know where you are. When you dial it, you should hear some nerdy guy say "your feature update was successful" |
