I bought the Siemens S46 for use in the USA and Europe. I was told by the salesman that I can take out the ATT sim card and put in a prepaid European sim card and enjoy relatively inexpensive cell calls in Europe. An ATT tech told me "No way" he said the phone is locked and will only accpet an ATT sim card. I would like to know the truth because I will return the phone within the first 30 days if that is the case.

My guess is that it is locked. If you have a friend with either VoiceStream or Cingular GSM I would try putting their SIM in the phone and see what happens. The first tri-band phone I had I got in Norway. It was locked and would not accept the VoiceStream SIM. Two of my associates just returned from Norway and each had the new Nokia 6310i, but they were unlocked so those phones accepted their VoiceStream SIM.
