This may be corrected in the 2200.x version of the software, but it is something I've noticed lately. My girlfriend's housemate goes to bed early, so sometimes when she calls me late, she has to whisper in order to not wake her housemate up. When I'm on my v60c, if she doesn't speak above a certain volume, her voice breaks up almost as if the phone is filtering out background noise and she's not speaking loud enough clear the filter. She's not on a cell, just her regular landline. I've had this problem in several places and the signal strength is full. If she whispers to me on my landline, I hear her perfectly, so it's not her phone or anything. Is this a problem with background noise filtering or is it just my phone? Could another v60c owner on Verizon confirm this? Have someone whisper a sentence or two very quietly while you're listening on your v60c and see if the voice comes through fragmented and broken up. Thanks in advance!

XZWMike, that sounds pretty odd. Ive had plenty of situations where I've been conversing with people who are speaking in a very low tone to me when I was on my v60, everything from girlfriend whispering from work, to people in meetings, etc etc. The only problem I've ever had is with thee damned speaker on the v60 not being loud enough (like my old Startac 7868 was) to overcome whatever ambient noise is around me. Since I've had my v60 since the earliest 2000.x firmware, and had 2 different phones/units, I'd say that either your phone is funky or you are perhaps near some other equipment that could be interfering with your signal? I'm trying to think of other possibilities, but I've honestly never encountered such a situation. I remmber, my father's old Nokia phone on AT&T had a menu option that said "voice privacy", which I never could get a solid answer on what it did. AFAIK, the v60 doesn't have anything even remotely close to that feature, so I'm basically out of answers. What about if, say, another person or a relative of yours calls you and whispers? Or is it just when talking to your girlfriend? I suppose the only realistic answer is to upgrade your phone to 2200.x and then throw the housemate out and move in with the g/f! :-p Try getting yhr g/f to do the same but call you from her cell as well.................. keep us posted! |

Anon, thanks for taking a stab at it. It's not just my girlfriend, it happens if anyone talks below a certain volume. We've tried calling my cell from different phones and everything. It just seems like my phone is trying to cut down on background noise and is filtering sounds below a certain noise level. I think what I am going to do is go to the VZW store tomorrow and call someone from my phone first and have them whisper to me, then call them back from the display model in the store and have them try again. If it doesn't do it on their v60c, I'll just have them replace mine. Otherwise if their phone does it too, I may see if I can get a different phone, although I don't know which others are good.

You know, it's funny, that despite all of the problems I've had (up until this point) with the v60, there's just something about the phone that makes me extremely reluctant to give it up. I think it's the "Motorola loyalty factor" since I felt the same way with my old Startac (and Microtac before that). Let us know how it turns out. I'll keep paying attention to make sure my phone doesn't start acting up like that as well! |

maybe your girlfriend has another boyfriend and thats why she's whispering so quietly...just kiddin man, i recently got the v60 and i think its with all the phones, not just yours, they didnt make the speaker loud enough, but i seem to be getting used to holding it a little lower on my ear and its alittle louder, i mean that the comfortable way to hold it isnt loud enough but if u move it down a little its a little louder i have noticed
