Syncing with Outlook or other PIM

I am looking for a phone to use as a palm, too, but I don't really care if it is an actual smartphone like the new Samsung. I just want to sync the phone directly to Outlook so that I can view appointments, to do items, notes and address book items on the phone.

Does anybody know of a good phone that can do this? I recently signed up with Nextel and then discovered that their phones can't (at least, their support doesn't have a clue how). I'm thinking of switching plans anyway; I have a trial period and from what I hear, Verizon seems to have the best service for somebody like me who travels to rural areas quite a bit. Nextel doesn't let you go to analog when you're out of their service area.

Any help is VERY appreciated! I'm new to the cell phone thing. Found that the Nokia 3360 (cingular only) has free software for syncing to Outlook but it doesn't appear to have a calendar.
